NEW The TCC board held its semi-annual meeting in Roi Et on Thursday, March 14. Many issues were covered, but this was a significant meeting primarily because a new president and secretary were elected. Rev. Tongpan Prometta, the only president the TCC has ever had, had earlier submitted his retirement notice, and he was replaced by Inchai Srisuwan of the Thai Faith & Music Foundation in Bangkok. The new secretary is Anun Srisuwan (his sister-in-law), from CCENT in Chiang Mai. This marks the first time that the administration of the TCC has been centered someplace other than Udon Thani.
UPDATE Aunt Won is getting steadily better and now only occasionally has discomfort in her legs.
UPDATE Tatsanee's surgery went well and she is now fully recovered.
UPDATE Khan Hak village church Last week Uncle Sa-gna gave his life to Christ. Another believer has already set up a regular time with him to help guide him as he begins his walk with Christ. This is a real answer to prayer because at the beginning of this year it became clear that we had neither people in the church nor materials that local believers could use ready for nurturing new believers. There are now 10 adults in the Khan Hak church receiving care on a small group or individualized basis. Please pray that God would pour His blessing on this church as the brothers and sisters open their lives to Christ is new ways.
One area that God has been working in the lives of the Khan Hak church has been in the area of fellowship or body life. The believers are being stretched to learn how to stay with each other as different members struggle with sin in their lives, how to work toward reconciliation when there is conflict between members, and how to manage offerings as members ask for assistance in the midst of their needs which are real but are often mixed with areas of sin. These are difficult areas for all of us so it is with wonder and praise to God that we see such growth.
UPDATE LIFE Please continue to pray for the team at LIFE as we continue to clarify the goals of the team and the strategy to reach these goals. We very much desire to have these be God's goals and to walk in step with the Spirit. NEW
Praise:
LIFE has had a handicraft (cross-stitch) project for some time now. Village women, both Christian and Buddhist, participate. Around 6 women from Khan Hoong village (near Khan Hak) are part of the program. None of them is a follower of Christ. However, we know there is a growing interest. Last Friday we had a surprise. The LIFE team had been told that a few (3-4?) kids from Khan Hoong were interested in coming to one of the youth groups. No one had ever come before. When a vehicle stopped to pick them up, 11 kids climbed into the van along with one adult!! Please pray for boldness and faith on the part of one or two adults to be the first ones to give their lives to Christ. The gates will then be opened and others will follow. Pray for the mighty movement of God's Spirit in this village. While you are at it, you may as well begin praying for the movement of the Spirit in the whole sub-district of Si Kaew of which Khan Hak and Khan Hoong are a part.
Married Couples LIFE has identified the health of marriage relationships as one factor that impacts the health of the local church. Materials are now in the process of being produced and discipleship of couples has begun. Without going into details of individual relationships, profound changes are taking place. This is not only a blessing to the couple and their family, it is a very strong witness to the power of God to the surrounding community. The radical change in the life of one couple in Don Sai village has begun to impact another couple. Now both couples will meet weekly with a LIFE staff member. The husband in this second couple has not yet decided to follow Christ, but this will only be a matter of time. He has opened his heart to change and God is going to be glorified in this relationship. As you pray for this couple, please also be in prayer for the relatives and friends who live around these two couples.
NEW Youth Camp Oct 12-15 are the dates of the annual fall youth retreat. Please pray for ready hearts in all who participate. At least half of the kids attending will be kids who have not yet decided to follow Christ. The theme will be Following Christ. Pray in particular for the youth from Non San village. Their youth group has been going since the beginning of the year. The daughter of an adult believer is the only Christian out of 15+ kids. A group of girls looks very close to making a decision. They have asked whether they would need to change from being Buddhist to be a Christian. They are counting the cost. Pray for faith and boldness as well as openness on the part of their parents.
Long-standing financial pressures and the resulting stresses have caused a major down-sizing in the Issaan Development Foundation. Agriculture operations (the fish fry production) are being suspended, and a small core of people will concentrate on development projects. Please pray for the remaining leadership and personnel and for the continued viability of this organization.
Since IDF provided most of the funding for the Institute for Applied Church Ministry, new sources of support will have to be developed to maintain the church support work of IACM.
NEW One of the CCENT farm workers was electricuted last week at the farm and they thought he was dead, but he is doing well and talking about coming back to work. His name is Noy Daeng and is our head for the broodstock dept. He was giving praise to God for bringing him back.
NEW Anan has mentioned a new place where they are now worshipping. It is the home of Aay, a boy whom they have discipled. His father gave the go ahead to have worship at their home.
NEW The Bevises are currently in Minnesota on a short home assignment. They will be returning to Chiang Mai later this month.
No current prayer requests or news items available.
NEW Summer (that's now in Thailand) Outreach Activities. On April 28th - 30st TFMF will have family camp for families from 7 different communities at Pataya, a two hour bus ride from Bangkok. The 5th of May is sport day for 7 communities; it will be held in the Klongtan area of Bangkok. Pray for the strength of the staff, as these activities follow the youth retreat held two weeks ago and the Vacation Bible School the Bangkok churches held last week. Pray for the movement of the Holy Spirit in the lives of all who attend.
At present there are two young ladies from Denmark helping teach English in the community programs on a short-term volunteer basis. They will finish their three-month term in May. This is an outreach which can continue to benefit from any foreign English-speakers who have a desire to serve in Thailand on a short-term basis.
Praise God that August 1 a suitable house was located to rent in Rong Poon to serve as a meeting place for a new daughter church. The church elder, Tuan Tong, has shown his commitment to the youth of this area by moving into the house to live full-time. God showed his perfect timing in providing this facility, as 34 of the new believers from the camping outing are from the Rong Poon slum and will now have a local church and on-site leader to guide their development.
