Tear Times

Since 1991, Tearfund UK has provided very generous support for the work of the Issaan Development Foundation. In October, 1997, they sent an "experience team" to Thailand, accompanied by staff members who recorded the visit. This visit formed the basis for articles in the Spring 1998 issue of their magazine, Tear Times, two of which are reproduced here:

Transformation in context - combining church and local development. -- An article written by Simon Batchelor, which uses the work of the IDF and the CCPCG as a case study of "how both Christian life and social action can be set in the context of the local culture. It shows how they can work together to make the gospel relevant to specific communities." This article, in particular the last section entitled "Discussion", includes some interesting reading on the issue of contextualizing the Gospel.
